Alicante skate tripFollowing our successful skate trips to the warmer climate of Alicante in the South of Spain already this year (2011), because of popular demand for skating in this spectacular location, we are running another one.

Our detailed knowledge of quiet local roads offers an unmatched opportunity to skate along "unbelievably smooth road and pavement surfaces" against stunning backdrops of the beach, harbour and Santa Bárbara castle. Like many cities of Southern Spain, Alicante has a strong cultural scene and is steeped in history. There is plenty to see, from the seaside promenade, the Esplanade to the colourful façades and winding streets of Alicante's historical district, El Barrio. Try a café con leche in a terrace café, sample the local food in a wide range of restaurants or just enjoy the vue of Alicante's diverse mix of architecture styles.

This seaside city is much warmer than in London in December, with average daytime temperatures of around 20 degrees.

During this trip, there will be three and a half days of gentle skating with lots of time to stop and enjoy the culture. And in the evenings you can do your own thing or you can join us for a skate to dinner. In Alicante you can pretty much go anywhere on skates.

Arrival day - 29th Dec

Mark will be on the 14.10 Monarch flight from Gatwick and will be arriving at about 17.25. This is the day when most of you will arrive and we will meet in the square for dinner and drinks at about 9pm

Day 1 - 30th Dec

Day 1 skating in AlicanteAs some of you may arrive on this day, Mark will be available during the day to meet up with people on the Espalana by the fountain at several times.

For those of you that arrived the day before, we start this amazing skate weekend with a get to know each other and Alicante on skates with a skate around the town to get you orientated with the local area and to show you some of the spots that are worth knowing about, because after all, this is a Skate Trip!

Then we chill out on the promenade for a bit where you can just relax and have a beer while watching the Mediterranean lap on the beach, or you can have a wander up and down on your skates and take on the sea air.

Now that you feel nice and relaxed and have a good appetite after a good healthy dose of warm sea air we head off for dinner at one of Alicante's little tucked away restaurants that is run by a friend of ours, Youcef. It's very popular with the locals and Youcef, your host will make you very welcome with some splendid authentic Spanish food.

Day 2 - 31st Dec

Day 2 skating in AlicanteRelax and do your own thing in the morning, have a nice breakfast in your hotel or on the beach front. Then we meet on the Esplanada (The Fountain end) on skates at 10.30am before we head off to the bus station to get ourselves to Arenales. No need to worry about tickets because we arrange all that for you.

Arenales has got to have just about the "Best" three kilometers of amazing smooth surface along the beach you could imagine - It's Amazing!!! and we are going to be spending some time there. You can skate, dip your toes in the Med or just chill out, soak up some Spanish sun and watch the world go by while you have some lunch.

Then at about 5pm we get the bus back to Alicante, but the day isn't over yet. You can go back to your hotel and freshen up or you can come with us for a skate around the harbour and have a beer before we skate off to one of Alicante's top Mexican resturaunts, which is owned and run by a couple from Mexico and the home made food is nothing less than Awesome!

New Years Eve: We meet and go for dinner in the old town and later it's off to the square for a traditional Spanish new year's eve celebration and fireworks.

New Year's Day - Day 3: "Chillax" it's a day off! However, Mark will be out and about on skates and you're most welcome to join him.

Day 4 - 2nd JanDay 3

After all that skating and soaking up all that lovely Spanish Sun you get the morning off. However, you're more than welcome to meet Mark for a skate to breakfast along the beach front and do a little shopping after, on skates if you want.

At 2.30pm we head off to the South side of the harbour where the view of the Med is lovely and you get to skate, play and of course Mark will be on hand to give you help, advice and tips. During the afternoon private lessons will be available from Mark if you'd like to book one. Private lessons are chargeable at 40 euros for one person.

In the evening we will head off for dinner and a little exploration of a few of Alicante's bars.

Day 5 - 3rd Jan

After having breakfast at about 10.30am we head off on skates to the top of Alicante (About 4km) to admire the amazing views of the med! Then it's a roll all the way back down to the town for a relaxing lunch on the beach front, after which Mark will be on hand to help you with whatever skate skills you'd like to work on.

Day 6 - 4th Jan

Relax and skate about a bit if you want before you leave to head off back home.

"This was a fabulous weekend.  I enjoyed it tremendously and even more
than I thought I would.  I learnt new skating skills and skated on the
best surfaces I've ever skated on, most of which were along wonderful
beach fronts.  The atmosphere, the food, the skating sessions, the
weather and the company were all fabulous.  And it was all very good
value too.  Thanks also for making sure we were all having a good time
and for finding good places for us to eat and drink.  It will stay in
my memory for a long time.  Can't wait for the next one which will
hopefully be in early spring.

All the best
Cindy
